Famous host of “The Tonight Show”, Jay Leno, recently made an appearance at VARA’s Goldenstate Classic race at Fontana driving a wild car that he has nicknmaed “The Tank.”
At 22-feet long and weighing in at 9000lbs, “The Tank” derives its name from the 1790 cu.in., aircooled, V-12 engine sourced from a 1953 M47 “Patton” tank. According to Leno the street-legal beast produces 810 hp, 1550 lbs/ft of torque and has a top speed of 140 mph! Leno adds that the only transmission that could take all that power was an Allison HT740 derived from a Greyhound bus!
