The sound of a full-field of Formula One cars will once again reverberate through the streets of downtown Long Beach this April, when the Historic Grand Prix group takes part as a full support race for this year’s Long Beach Grand Prix.
It has been 27 years since Formula One cars first took to the streets of downtown Long Beach in what was then known as the U.S. Grand Prix, West. In the subsequent nine years that the Formula One circus made their annual stop in Long Beach, such legendary names as Mario Andretti, Niki Lauda, Gilles Villeneuve, Carlos Reutemann, Nelson Piquet, John Watson, Clay Regazzoni and Alan Jones have all left their indelible mark as Long Beach GP winners.
F1 cars will again take to the street of Long Beach this April 11-13, when HGP serves as one of the main support races for the CART Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. As part of this year’s racing program, HGP entrants will participate in their own practices and qualifying sessions on Friday and Saturday, followed by their own race Sunday morning, just prior to the CART race. For entrant information, contact HGP at (415) 924-9022; for ticket information, contact the track at (888) 82-SPEED.
