October 11-13 will mark the return of historic racing to San Diego’s North Island Naval Air Station as the Chrysler Jeep Classic Speed Festival returns after a one-year hiatus.
Due to heightened security concerns, the military was forced to cancel last year’s event as a result of the September 11 terrorist attacks. Fortunately, the Navy was anxious to reinstate the event this year, which serves as a key component of both San Diego’s Culligan Holiday Bowl and the Naval Air Station’s annual Fleet Week open house festivities.
This year’s event will feature a variety of historic racing machinery including pre-war and early post-war sports cars, ’50s-’60s GT and sports cars, early ’60s sports racers and the always popular small bore Can-Am and historic Trans-Am cars. For more information go to www.hmsausa.com
