Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Triumph marque, more than 60 Triumphs took to the track for this year’s SVRA Sprint Grand Prix held at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on June 14-16. In addition to a large assortment of TR2s, 3s, 4s and 6s, there were also a number of significant racecars from Triumph’s past including one of the TRS Le Mans cars and a Le Mans Spitfire. Such was the draw for this special event that eight cars were shipped over from England to take part in the festivities.
Serving as grand marshal for the event was former U.S. Competition Director Kas Kastner who was stunned by the large turnout of Triumph faithful. According to Kastner, “The racing was great, just as I remember in the ’50s when I was racing TR3s. The racers acted the same, too, helping each other, trading spares and having a hell’va good time.” Highlights of the weekend included several dinners and a parade of more than 200 Triumph street cars which completely encircled the 2.4 mile course.
