Racecar designer Ron Tauranac was awarded Australia’s highest non-military honor when he was bestowed the Order of Australia this year for his many contributions to motorsport.
Tauranac is perhaps best known for designing the Repco-Brabham Formula One cars that took Sir Jack Brabham and Denny Hulme to World Championships in 1966 and 1967. Later in the ’70s, Tauranac founded Ralt cars and went on to become one of the most prolific open-wheel racecar builders of all time.
Three-time Champion Sir Jack Brabham said he was “…extremely pleased and proud that Ron’s talents have finally been publicly recognized.”
