The National Motor Museum at Beaulieu in Hampshire is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. On March 19 the museum kicked off the celebration with the opening of a new Motorsport Gallery featuring Britain’s outstanding achievements in Grand Prix and Le Mans racing, as well as rallying, with a number of legendary cars mounted on a sweeping steel track stretching across the museum. Though Lord Montagu himself, who built the collection, was ill, his son Ralph opened the new gallery with famed motorsport commentator Murray Walker.
On hand were former Grand Prix stars Tony Brooks and Jackie Oliver, sports car racer Win Percy, and Bette Hill, widow of former World Champion Graham and mother of Damon Hill.
In addition to the new gallery, Beaulieu also plans improvements and expansion of its world-renown archives.
