A number of sources, including AutoWeek, are reporting that a battle is brewing over control of the famed Monterey Historic Automobile Races. According to recent reports, Steve Earle’s contract with the Mazda Laguna Seca Racetrack is now up for renewal.
Rumors have circulated that the racetrack wants a 40% increase in rental fees and a 50% stake in the profits. Speculation abounds as to whether the new terms are an effort to force Earle to relinquish control of the event back to the track. Whether the historic racing community would support such a changeover is uncertain, but could play a deciding role in the negotiations. VRJ will provide more details as they become available.
