VR: Why don’t we step all the way back to the early days, can you tell me a little bit about when you first became afflicted with the disease?
BT: Well, basically, I grew up in Berkeley, California and in Berkeley, there were a lot of professors and people who traveled a lot, so there were a lot of unusual cars that had come back with those people—Humber Super Snipes, a 166MM Ferrari Coupe, AC Bristols, some goofy things that people were putting fiberglass bodies on and the like. And so I fell in love with the idea of sports cars, sports car racing, and I read everything I could find, like The Green Helmet and other books. When I was in high school, I wasn’t doing particularly well in Spanish, so they decided to give up on me and put me in library for the rest of the year…which was most of the year! I read three issues of Road & Track per day for the entire semester and so I had a little bit of working knowledge when I got out of high school.
