Recently, I was contacted by a chap in New Jersey who labored under the impression that I know much more than I do. He had bought an MZ 850 single-seater and wanted to know more. Not only had I not heard of the make, I had no knowledge of the formula, but I reckon ignorance should be a spur to knowledge.
My correspondent’s MZ 850 was built for Fiat Formula 850, which for about 10 years from 1967, was a wholly Italian category. It came about around the same time as Formula Ford and Formula Vee, clearly there was something in the air.
