Following a debut season running alongside the Masters Cloth Cap category, the JEC/Vredestein XK Challenge will continue to run under the wing of the Masters Racing Series in 2009.
The arrangement was highly popular this year, with grids of over 30 cars for the Cloth Cap/XK Challenge races. The XK drivers embraced the longer race format with the option of sharing cars and a number of drivers now swap cars mid-race so that they each drive two cars.
“Competitors have been delighted by the warm welcome from other Masters Series’ competitors,” said Terry Dye, Competitions Secretary of the Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club. “The races have been competitive and fun with a terrific camaraderie. The Jaguar XK sits comfortably within the ethos of Masters and we feel very much at home. I would like to compliment the Masters team on the efficient and friendly running of their race meetings.”
“We’re very happy to see the XK Challenge racing with Cloth Cap for a second season,” said Claire Tippet, the Masters Top Hat coordinator. “Some XK owners already race other cars in Top Hat and Masters, so it has made a lot of sense to welcome the XK’s into Masters events.”
The 2009 Top Hat racing calendar is not yet finalized.
