• Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) has announced that American racing legend Bobby Rahal has entered the second annual Classic 24 Hour at Daytona, presented by IMSA, November 12–15 at Daytona International Speedway. Rahal is a three-time Indycar National Champion and winner of the Indianapolis 500 as both a driver (1986) and team owner (2004). He also won the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1981, co-driving a Porsche 935 K3 with Bob Garretson and Brian Redman. For the Classic 24, Rahal will co-drive a 1974 Porsche 911 RSR with auto industry executive, Jim Farley, an experienced historic racing competitor in his own right.
• Vince Gimondo, a Florida used car dealer who was a regular Trans-Am and IMSA GT competitor in the 1970s and ’80s—usually in Camaros or Corvettes—has passed away at the age of 84. The peak of Gimondo’s career came at Daytona in 1972 when he drove his Camaro to victory in both the SCCA’s Midnight Challenge Cup in February and NASCAR Grand-Am’s Paul Revere 250 on the Fourth of July. The following year he and co-driver Billy DIngman finished 5th overall and 1st in class with the Camaro at the 12 Hours of Sebring. His last full season or racing came in 1987. To all of Gimondo’s family and friends, Vintage Racecar extends its deepest sympathies.
