Artist Bark has chosen to feature the 1965 Ford Mustang here because it is an iconic American classic, especially the Shelby 350 GT variant, which he feels defines the genre of the American Muscle car. This piece has been developed from his preparation work for a 50th anniversary sculpture to be released in 2014.
His work springs from his passion for things that move, and he has spent his life drawing, sculpting and painting them as well as driving and restoring them. He originally studied design at art school in South Africa before going into advertising, where his first job was drawing cars and designing motor sport posters. He subsequently returned to university to study ceramic sculpture at Goldsmiths College in London. He says his painting has “moved on from my traditional style, I have developed a minimalist ‘screen print’ style that reflects my time as a poster artist. In my work, I try to achieve a sense of speed and dynamism and to reach the essence of the subject by removing all but the essential detail.”
