Famed Hollywood customizer George Barris has passed away at the age of 89.
Before World War II, George and his brother Sam began building their own custom cars and formed the Kustoms Car Club, in Southern California. After the war, the duo resumed building customs and Hot Rods, which resulted in growing demand for their creations. Later in the ’50s, Sam left the business, but George continued on and developed a devoted following in Hollywood.
Eventually, this following led to the creation of customized vehicles for movies and television, which became Barris’s calling card. Over the following decades, Barris and his company would create iconic vehicles such as the “Batmobile”, and customs for “The Munsters” television series, “The Dukes of Hazzard,” “Starsky & Hutch” and numerous movies.
