Patina is defined by Webster’s Dictionary as, “an appearance or aura that is derived from association, habit, or established character.” While easy to define, it’s harder to describe in relation to cars as one man’s patina is another man’s garbage. Sports Car Digest loves any and all patina, as, in our opinion, there is nothing better than a car that has lived well and it has the age lines to prove it.
This 1955 Mercedes Benz 300SL Gullwing certainly has patina, although it will be short-lived as its well on the road to a full restoration. From the Seller: “Two owners with only 44,395 original miles, original interior (with exception of the carpeting) & books. This car was special ordered set of Rudge knock-off wheels! In its current condition is running & driving with good brakes and transmission. The body has been completely stripped to steel and has been metal finished in steel & aluminum along with the bumpers fitted to the body & metal finished as well. The undercarriage and tubular frame has been complete stripped to steel documented and detailed to show condition. ”
