An all-new 2016 Shelby GT-H prototype Mustang will be auctioned during Barrett-Jackson’s Mohegan Sun Auction in Uncasville, Connecticut, on Friday, June 24, with proceeds benefiting the Carroll Shelby Foundation. The Shelby GT-H celebrates the 50th anniversary of Ford Shelby Hertz GT350-H “Rent-A-Racer,” and provides great performance in the classic black and gold Shelby and Hertz livery.
In 1966, Carroll Shelby approached Hertz with a unique opportunity to put customers in the driver’s seat of high-performance special edition Shelbys. Ford supplied the new Mustangs, Shelby added extra performance and style and Hertz gave the public access to a unique driving experience. The three companies repeated the formula with the Shelby GT-H program in 2006 and again in 2016 with the 50th anniversary edition car. The limited-edition machine was unveiled as part of a special 50-year celebration during the recent New York Auto Show.
“This auction will help the Carroll Shelby Foundation continue Carroll’s legacy,” said Jenni Shreeves, the Foundation’s Executive Director. “The money raised from this special Shelby will help provide medical assistance and educational opportunities for children, young people and those in need.”
