Yet another significant Corvette with great racing history is set to be sold at auction, as Worldwide Auctioneers confirmed that a special 1965 Corvette Roadster will be offered for sale at its fifth annual Houston Classic Auction on May 2nd.
This announcement comes on the heels of the following recent racing Corvette sales: 1963 Corvette Grand Sport, 1967 ex-James Garner Corvette L88, 1962 Gulf Oil Corvette and 1963 Gulf Oil Corvette Z06. We hope to see all on the vintage racing circuit.
Owned and raced by Herb Caplan alongside the legendary Dick Guldstrand, this “8-Ball Cobra killer” was one of the most competitive cars of its day, winning 46 of 49 of its races in one season on the West Coast. Today restored to its original 1966 race specification, “this is a well known and respected automobile with a wonderful history that would certainly be a welcome entrant at any vintage race event”, said John Kruse, Managing Partner.
The May sale will also include a magnificent Pebble Beach Award winning 1933 Duesenberg LaGrande Dual Cowl Phaeton and a remarkable 1936 Auburn 852 Boattail Speedster, an AACA National First Place Award winner. “The Houston Classic Auction has matured into one of the premier events on the calendar and we are proud to once again present collectors with the opportunity to bid for a diverse and distinctive range of quality hand selected automobiles”, said Rod Egan, Managing Partner and Chief Auctioneer. Further featured are more than a dozen outstanding cars from the Sterling McCall Museum, including a beautiful 1931 Cadillac V16 All Weather Phaeton and singular 1939 Cadillac V16 Convertible Sedan.
Held in conjunction with the fourteenth annual Keels and Wheels Concours D’Elegance, the Houston Classic Auction is on Saturday, May 2nd 2009 at the Lakewood Yacht Club in Seabrook, Texas. Quality consignments are still invited and may be discussed with either Rod Egan or John Kruse on 1-260-927-0000, along with further information on existing consignments.
Full details on the sale, admission and advance bidder registration may be obtained by calling 1-260-927-0000 or visiting www.wwgauctions.com.
