The 1955 24-hour race at Le Mans was set to be an epic contest. Mercedes-Benz had entered the brilliant new W196 single seater-based sports car, the 300 SLR. Stirling Moss had driven the 300 SLR to victory two months previously in the Mille Miglia. For this race he was to be paired with the Argentine ace Juan Manuel Fangio, depicted in the painting, driving car number 19. It was to be the most formidable pairing of drivers in Le Mans history.
The original painting was a commission and so not for sale, but other original work on my website is. The painting is a monochrome oil-on-canvas 15” x 12”. It is available as a limited edition print of 200, £115.00
