This Saturday, May 21, the faithful will gather once again at Shelby headquarters — 19021 South Figueroa St., Gardena, California — for the Carroll Shelby Tribute and Car Show. This year’s event is specifically celebrating the 50th anniversary of Shelby American scoring Ford’s first victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 18-19, 1966.
The event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and is open to the public, with a suggested donation of $10. Visitors will be able to enjoy a special Pancake Breakfast, a car show with awards for the top 25 entries as well as Best of Show, and a mid-day panel discussion featuring Cobra luminaries such as Allen Grant, Bob Bondurant, John Morton, Gary Patterson and other special Shelby guests. Other happenings include the noon unveiling of the limited edition “Sebring Tribute” Cobra, one of only 15 such cars to be built, and observance of the 50th Anniversary of the 1966 Shelby Mustang GT350H Hertz “rent-a-racer” with the current-model anniversary edition on hand as well.
Also on tap will be a beer and wine garden for the enjoyment of attendees, the annual Chili Cook-off and a special Shelby “engine rev” at 1 p.m. For more information please visit www.carrollshelbytribute.com
