• The Motorsports Hall of Fame of America (MSHFA) presented John Mecom Jr. with its Bob Russo Heritage Award at the 28th Annual MSHFA Induction Ceremony Presented By Bridgestone at The Shores Resort & Spa in Daytona Beach. The award, named in honor of the long-time motorsports journalist and historian, is presented at the recommendation of the MSHFA Board of Directors in recognition of the recipient’s contributions to motorsports throughout their career.
• Northern California’s Classic Sports Racing Group celebrated the great North American training categories of Formula Atlantic and Formula B during its May outing at Thunderhill Park. The featured Atlantic race was won by 1984 West Coast Atlantic Racing champion Dan Marvin in the Norman Racing Group’s ex-Gilles Villeneuve March 76B, followed by Collin Jackson in the ex-Allan Lader FB Brabham BT40 in 2nd and David Rugh 3rd in a Ralt RT5. The trophy for Best Atlantic Presentation was awarded to Dave Alvarado for the superb restoration of his ex-Bobby Rahal Swing Orange March 76B.
• The faithful gathered once again this May at Shelby headquarters in Gardena, California, for the annual Carroll Shelby Tribute and Car Show. This year’s event celebrated the 50th anniversary of Shelby American scoring Ford’s first victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 18-19, 1966. Highlighting the event was a mid-day panel discussion featuring Cobra luminaries such as Allen Grant, Bob Bondurant, John Morton and Gary Patterson.
