The Classics at the Castle Porsche Concours 2012 was staged Sunday, September 2nd on the grounds of Hedingham Castle, which is located in the village of Castle Hedingham in England.
The 6th annual Classics at the Castle Concours, limited to classic Porsches built from 1948 to 1973, celebrated the 40th anniversary of the epic 911 Carrera RS. The event celebrated this historic milestone with a parade of more than forty Carrera RS model types, plus a number of the subsequent RS models that followed.
In addition to this year’s 40th anniversary RS Carrera parade, organizers also coordinated a chronological parade of the various pre-74 production models that included a selection from each of the 356, 912, 914 and 911 types.
Significant Porsche race cars were also plentiful at the 2011 Classics at the Castle, including the Porsche 907 Longtail that Vic Elford and Jochen Neerpasch drove to victory at the 1968 24 Hours of Daytona, the ex-Richard Attwood / Hans Herrmann Team Salzburg Porsche 917K that won the 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Martini Racing Porsche 917 LH, the 1973 Porsche 911 RSR ‘Mary Stuart’ Prototype and other fabulous Porsche RS and RSR variants.
Similar to the 2010 and 2011 events, Photographer Tim Scott of Fluid Images also documented the 2012 Classics at the Castle Porsche Concours. He offers the following images that capture the varied and significant selection of Porsche street and race cars that were displayed on the fabulous grounds of Hedingham Castle. The Rob Russell 911 was NOT a Vic Elford/David Stone rally car. In 1967 I finished 3rd in Monte Carlo Rally in a 911 and then ITV held the first ever RallyCross at Lydden Hill. They insisted that I be there – the only problem, I had no Porsche in UK. AFN/ Aldingtons lent me their Showroom demonstrator with which I won the Rallycross, beating two factory Ford Lotus Cortinas driven by Roger Clark and Brian Melia. The car had a lot of dents from their contacts and could not be sold so the Aldingtons decided to enter it and me in the British Touring Car (race) championship which I won (2 litre category) in 1967. Rob is now the very proud owner of that car.
