The International Motor Racing Research Center (IMRRC) at Watkins Glen International has announced it will once again offer a Cobra replica as its annual raffle car. “The selection of a Cobra for 2010 was an easy one based on the popularity of similar vehicles that were offered in 2005 and 2008,” said the Center’s Director of Marketing & Development, Jon McKnight. “Cobras seem to be the ultimate aspiration vehicle for the broad spectrum of publics that we serve and with 400 hp at the rear wheels and a weight of 2800 lbs this car is bound to excite our winner.”
This year’s car is powered by an original Ford 427FE engine fed by two 4-barrel Carter carburetors, has a Ford T&C 10-bolt 4-speed manual transmission and Ford 9-inch posi-traction differential with a 3.73 final drive. Finished in brilliant Viper Blue metallic paint with dual white racing stripes, it is also equipped with dual, four point, competition-style seat belts and shoulder harnesses, 16-inch Halibrand alloy wheels, and features period-correct quick-jack style bumpers and a single hoop roll bar.
Tickets for the raffle are priced at $60 each, or two for $100, and can be ordered online at www.racingarchives.org, by telephone at (607) 535-9044 or directly at the Center, 610 S. Decatur Street in the village of Watkins Glen. Tickets will also be available at the Center’s display at Watkins Glen International during major race weekends. Only 1800 tickets will be sold and the winning ticket will be drawn at 12 noon on Saturday, December 4.
