The title of my column reads: “The Fabulous Fifties.” The era is one I know something about. During that time, I raced, rallied, officiated, and was an SCCA Regional Board member. In addition, I shot photos, wrote articles, and had a wide friendship that included some of you. Also, I was involved, business-wise, with Bill Devin and his cars as well as the magazine, Sports Car Journal.
Although I quit all of that and changed careers after 1959, I have loads of friends who kept on into the sixties; some of whom enjoyed great success. Need I mention Phil Hill, our first American World Champion? The list goes on: Mario Andretti, Jack Brabham, Dan Gurney, Jim Hall, Parnelli Jones, Ken Miles, Carroll Shelby, and Bobby Unser to name a few.
