Vintage Racecar will be celebrating with Race Retro as the 15th Anniversary edition of the event gets under way at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire, on Friday February 24, running through Sunday the 26th. The VR stand will be situated in our now established position in the Premier Hall, Hall 2, Stand 1:20, and will have the unique Eifelland Type 21 (above, photo by Gilles Bouvier/Photosports) sporting the Luigi Colani bodywork on display — with grateful thanks to owner Dave Shaw and Liaz Jakhara at Zul Racing, Derby. We will also pay homage to the 50th Anniversary of the Cosworth DFV, with one of the iconic engines on display.
As usual, VR‘s European team will be on hand to answer any questions and welcome subscribers. European Editor Mike Jiggle said, “It’s great to be part of the traditional season opener for those involved in historic motorsport. Vintage Racecar has been associated with the show since Day One; I can’t believe this will be the 15th anniversary — how time flies. Over the years, Race Retro has truly established itself as being the historic motorsport show to see and be seen at, we wish the new owners, Clarion Events, all the best as they take up the baton. Let’s look forward to the next 15 years.”
Other show highlights will be the Bentley Speed 8 raced to victory by Tom Kristensen, Guy Smith and Dindo Capello in the 2003 24 Hours of Le Mans. The legendary racer will be reunited with the evolution of the prototype designed by Peter Elleray, today valued at £10 million. In the annals of motor racing, few machines are as iconic as the Lotus 33-Climax, chassis number R11, as driven by Jim Clark to 1st place in the 1965 Belgian, British, German and Syracuse Grands Prix on his way to winning his second World Championship. It is only right that this amazing piece of motorsport history be the centerpiece of the Motor Sport Hall of Fame.
For rally fans, Race Retro has lined up a “clash of the titans” as Finnish rally legends Ari Vatanen and Markku Alén join the show’s anniversary celebrations by getting back behind the wheel on the bespoke Live Rally Stage. Acting Show Director Lee Masters said: “Vatanen and Alén are larger-than-life characters who are guaranteed to delight the crowds. To have them with us at the show is one thing, but to have them in action, driving these amazing Group B cars on our Rally Stage is something you won’t see anywhere else. We are thrilled to have them as part of our 15th Super Show.” The duo will appear on Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th at Stoneleigh Park.
