Officials of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca have announced that the Historic Motor Sports Association (HMSA) will be the sanctioning body for the 2010 Monterey Historic Automobile Races as well as the Monterey Pre-Historics. HMSA will provide rules, regulations, and oversee technical inspection.
Although the Featured Marque was not announced, the classifications of cars that will be eligible for this year’s event were made known, with 3-liter Formula One (1966-1983), Trans-Am (1966-1972), drum-braked Stock Cars, and Bugatti Grand Prix being named “Featured Classes.”
The other classes will include: pre-1949 Sports and Racing cars; 1947–1955 GT and Sports cars; 1947–1955 GT and Sports Racing cars; 1955–1962 GT cars; 1955–1961 Sports Racing cars under 2000-cc; 1955–1961 Sports Racing cars; 1961-1966 GT Cars under 2500-cc; 1964–1972 FIA Manufacturers Championship cars; 1971–1976 FIA Manufacturers Championship cars; 1973–1982 IMSA, GT, GTX, AAGT cars; 1981–1989 FIA Manufacturers Championship and IMSA GTP cars; 1959–1966 Sports Racing cars; 1963–1966 GT cars over 2500-cc; and 1958–1963 Formula Junior cars.
“In our continuing efforts to keep everyone informed, we are announcing the classes and making the forms readily available to participants,” said Gill Campbell, CEO and general manager for the raceway. “This gives everyone involved the information to decide which cars to enter, with enough time to get the cars ready and make arrangements.”
In order to give the selection committee sufficient time to review entries, the deadline for entry form submissions has been set at January 31, 2010. The 37th annual Monterey Historic Automobile Races will be held August 12-15, 2010. Tickets are on sale by phone (800) 327-7322, or at www.mazdaraceway.com.
