In early July, HMSA the sanctioning body for the annual Monterey Historic Automobile Races sent an email to all its members informing them that Steve Earle and his company General Racing, Ltd., would no longer be organizing the famed Monterey peninsula event that Earle founded in 1976. HMSA president Cris Vandagriff sent an email to all HMSA club members stating, “I received a letter from Steve Earle this past Friday, July 3rd, informing me that, effective immediately, my services on behalf of General Racing would no longer be required because General Racing will not be organizing the Coronado Speed Festival or the Monterey Historic Automobile Races after 2009.”
While more detail was not available at the time of going to press, it would appear that the long-standing contractual battles between Earle and Laguna Seca’s SCRAMP management have come to an end.
