As a way to thank local resident and international racing driver Sam Posey for his lifelong contributions to Lime Rock Park, track owner Skip Barber gave Sam the honor of driving the first laps around the newly repaved and reconfigured circuit when it officially opened on July 4th.
“I feel like a kid again,” smiled Sam as he stood at the brand-new Start/Finish line prior to climbing into his vintage Formula Ford for the track-opening laps. “It’s exciting to be here and I am honored to have this experience. This project is a great leap forward for Lime Rock Park.”
Although the entire racing surface was debumped and repaved, the biggest changes came on the back side, where an optional pair of new chicanes were inserted into the layout as a way of slowing the fastest cars in the interest of safety. Other improvements were made to the facility’s pit complex and spectator areas. For an update on how to drive the new section, see Hot Laps on page 50.
