Leake Auction Company has added a 2003 BMW Z8 Alpina to this weekend’s auction, November 17-19, in Dallas Market Hall. The limited-edition example features a five-speed BMW Steptronic transmission and a 4.8-liter Alpina-tuned V8 engine. This car is one of 555 manufactured in 2003, with only 450 offered for sale in the USA.
The design of the BMW Z8 was led by Chris Bangle, with the intention of celebrating the 1956-’59 BMW 507. In order to provide a 50/50 weight distribution, the engine was located behind the front axle. The taillights and turn signals feature neon lighting, allowing for quicker activation compared to standard bulbs. All of the Z8s came with a soft top and a color-matching hardtop with a rear defroster. Due to the potential of the vehicle becoming a classic, BMW promised to stockpile spare parts for 50 years.
“These cars do not come up for auction very often, and when they do, aficionados pay attention,” stated Zak Pagano, consignment specialist for Leake Auction Company. “This is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most collectible and iconic BMWs ever produced.”
