Seller Comments: “This model “Twin Cam” was built for Peter Fletcher a Gentleman race driver from London. This extremely rare example is one of three cars built and is the only car in its original condition spending all its life in a private collections.”
“It was the last car HRG made, except for a brief one off effort some twenty years late. The twin cam was one of the first few manufacturers to have hydraulic calipers and disk for brakes. These were built in house by HRG.”
“A British gentleman brought this car over to the USA in the mid 1960’s. He sold it to Gary Ford in 1968, who kept it until 1975. In 1974 Mr. Park allowed Ian Dussek to drive the car in a GP support race at Watkins Glen. The car has also participated in the 2004 Aintree Sports Car race (driven by Simon Edwards) and the 2007 Le Mans 24 Hours invited support race, (driven by Patrick Edwards).”
Sports Car Digest Comments: H.R.G Twin Cams are few and far between, especially in this original condition. The car would most likely be accepted into virtually any vintage car race or event, which certainly adds to its value among collectors. With that said, however, we would need to become much more comfortable with the asking price before considering this Twin Cam. The asking price is in lofty territory, with many exceptional cars in that price range.
Market: The January – May Cars That Matter Price Guide suggests a $95,000 price for a #1 condition car. We are not sure what to make of the $355,000(!) price difference between the guide and asking price.
Comparative sales are hard to find, although another Twin Cam traded for €44,227 Euro last May at the Coys Brands Hatch auction. While similar, it did not appear to be in the same condition as the profiled Twin Cam. Still, the price disparity is alarming.
