Fresh from winning the FIA Founding Members’ Heritage Cup for last year’s event, the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion will try to improve itself with an exciting list of run groups for the 2018 outing, scheduled for August 23-26 at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California.
Topping the list of 15 run groups are three verified fan favorites, Formula One (1967-’84), Can-Am (1966-’74) and Formula 5000 (1968-’76), and they will be joined by: Trans-Am (1966-’72); FIA Manufacturers Championship; FIA, IMSA, GT, GTX, GTU, AAGT (1973-’81); GT (1955-’62); IMSA GTO/GTP (1981-’91); Sports Racing over 2000cc (1955-’61); Sports Racing under 2000cc (1955-’61); GT over 2500cc (1963-’66); GT under 2500cc (1963-’66); Formula Junior (1958-’63); Sports Racing and GT cars (1947-’55); and Pre-1940 Sports Racing, Touring and Race cars and 1927-’51 Racing Cars.
“The Selection Committee wanted to come out of the gate with an unparalleled level of iconic race and sports cars to fill the paddock and compete on track,” explained Gillian Campbell, the circuit’s senior vice president of events. “It’s four full days of pure adrenalin entertainment where guests can get up close to the cars, talk to their owners and mingle with motor racing.”
Some 550 historic vintage racecars will be selected from the more than 900 entry requests expected. These entry requests are being accepted until January 31 via www.MazdaRaceway.com. Each entry will then be scrutinized by the selection committee to ensure the car’s authenticity as well as period- and mechanical-correctness. Such strict scrutiny ensures the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion remains one of the top events of its kind in the world.
