Last weekend’s combined auctions in Scottsdale, Arizona, were marked by high sell-through rates, world record prices and combined sales from four major auction houses totaling nearly $220 million. The auctions featured 30 cars that sold for more than $1 million, with Gooding & Co. leading the way with 12, followed by eight for RM Sotheby’s, seven for Bonhams and three for Barrett-Jackson.
Barrett-Jackson, however, hosting its 47th annual Scottsdale Auction, topped the total sales count with $106.8 million worth of collector cars sold, and an additional $6.21 million worth of sales that directly benefited charities — including $1.4 million from a 2018 Corvette Carbon Fiber 65 Edition donated by Chevrolet for The George W. Bush Presidential Center’s Military Service Initiative, with the ex-President in attendance. The Corvette was only the second-highest charity seller, however, as a 2017 Ford GT donated by Ron Pratte to benefit The Autism Society of North Carolina’s Ignite Program and the Autism Alliance of Michigan hammered for $2,550,000. (These cars are not included in the following lists.)
Second on the sales tally list was Gooding & Co. with $49.2 million in total, followed by RM Sotheby’s with $36.5 million and Bonhams with $25.2 million. Barrett-Jackson also led the sell-through rate list with an astonishing 99.2 percent, followed closely by RM Sotheby’s at 88 percent, Bonhams with 87 percent and Gooding & Co. at 85 percent.
A 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB Speciale (above, Jensen Sutra photo courtesy of Gooding & Co.) sold by Gooding & Co. led the way overall, bringing in $8,085,000 to set a new world record for the model. The remainder of the top 10 sellers were (with * indicating a new world record):
