Spring is in the air and the dawn of a new season of racing with the Historic Racing Drivers Club beckons, the first rounds scheduled for Silverstone next weekend. Prior to the racing, two full days of HRDC testing at Goodwood took place (above, Jeff Bloxham photo), beginning on Monday with a further day Tuesday. Gone is the Goodwood snow, and although there was still a nippy bite in the air, sunshine and blue skies welcomed those attending a glorious day’s testing.
Cobwebs were blown off of many cars, and various tweaks were made to engines and mechanicals in the search to find that extra edge in an effort to move further up the field or, better still, adventure onto the hallowed podium and collect silverware for posterity. All that has now taken place, and everyone will be facing the acid test to see if it all comes together on track. While there were still battle scars and debris from the 76th Members Meeting on the Goodwood infield, the track was in excellent condition, so a good number of those involved in the various HRDC races were able to take full advantage.
The HRDC racing calendar for 2018 shows races from April to October with rounds at Silverstone, the Donington Historic Festival, Brands Hatch, Snetterton and Mallory Park before concluding again at Donington Park. Like last year, selected HRDC series will also run at the Silverstone Classics on July 20-22.
