The most beautiful cars in history will be warming up their engines. La Leggenda di Bassano – Trofeo Giannino Marzotto, a unique regularity race reserved exclusively for Sport-Barchetta cars built until 1960, will run this year from June 21 to 24, 2018.
This prestigious rally’s credentials are certainly not lacking, given that the event, organized once again by the Circolo Veneto Automoto d’Epoca “Giannino Marzotto”and with 56 years of experience under its belt, not only won the “La Manovella d’Oro Internazionale” prize as the best international event in the 2015 and 2016 editions, but notched a hat trick by winning the 2017 edition, as well.
“We are working to perfect the last details so that even this year’s edition will be unforgettable,” said Stefano Chiminelli, President of the Circolo Veneto Automoto d’Epoca “Giannino Marzotto”. “We’ve received registrations from every corner of the world, and 14 different countries will be taking part this year with dream cars of inestimable historical value. Once again we’re proposing a route that winds along the most beautiful roads in the Dolomites, guaranteeing that same climate of friendship and celebration that has caught the hearts of the “La Leggenda” participants and which has always marked this event.”
The 2018 route
The most beautiful cars in the world driving through the spectacle of the Dolomites. This is the winning combination of the 2018 edition of “La Leggenda di Bassano”. After the sports and technical trials, to be held on June 21, the first competitor will leave on Friday June 22 at 12.30 from the splendid villa Cà Cornaro in Romano d’Ezzelino, near Bassano del Grappa (VI). The first stretch, 180 km long, will take the vehicles through Bassano del Grappa before reaching the stupendous Asiago, making a return to the city where the final stretch of last year’s race was run. From here, they will enter Trentino, where the drivers will cover a panoramic stretch with a view of Caldonazzo Lake; they will then head towards Trento, go up the Adige valley to the banks of another beautiful lake, Caldaro, and then continue to Bolzano (BZ), where the first vehicle will parade at around 5 pm.
June 23 sees the second stretch of 320 km, certainly the most demanding, but also the most spectacular, for both the cars and the drivers. The first car will leave Bolzano at 8.30. After going up the Isarco Valley to Chiusa, the cars will cross the Würzjoch pass, then travel down Val Badia until San Vigilio, reaching Toblach. From here, the convoy will continue along a beautiful route in the shadow of the Sextener Rotwand, straying into Friuli Venezia-Giulia until Sauris. After this, they will skim the slopes of the Friuli Dolomites, going down Val Cadore and up Val di Zoldo. It is a very difficult stretch that ends at Alleghe after a ride around the district of Monte Civetta.
The third and last stretch will be on June 25. Departure at 8.30 from Alleghe, heading towards Sospirolo through the Belluno Dolomites and then to Feltre, where the convey will begin travelling up Monte Grappa, passing alongside the Memorial monument. From here the cars will go down towards Bassano del Grappa for the traditional parade that ends in Piazza Libertà, where the vehicles will stop to be admired in all their splendour. After the last trial, the “Trofeo Città di Bassano”, “La Leggenda” will end with lunch, hosted once again in the suggestive Distillerie Poli.
