F5000 racing stalwart, former Pro Mazda racer and Peoria, Illinois Ford dealership owner Jeff Green suffered a fatal, single car accident, during the running of the first round of the 2018 F5000 Revival race series at Mosport, on Saturday.
Green, driving his ex-Jerry Hansen 1972 Lola T300 started from the pole for the Saturday afternoon main feature, but after reaching the end of the long, fast back straightaway, Green’s Lola barreled off track and made heavy contact with the wall, at the end of Turn 8. Green was extracted from the car by the course safety crew but was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Jeffrey Green,” said Myles Brandt, President and General Manager of Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (Mosport). “We offer our deepest condolences and prayers to his family, friends and fellow competitors.”
