One of the delights of Vintage Racecar is reading the small ads and being reminded of the sheer diversity of historic racing. You have the big names, of course, but there are the lesser-known makes like Bolwell, Elden and Huffaker—to pick three from a recent issue.
None of these became a major marque but I admire the people behind them, and the hundreds of other constructors who flowered briefly. Making customer racing cars is the hardest business in the world because the product is assessed week on week on performance, not opinion. You can sell a road car on price or style, but a racing car sells only on results.
