There is very little doubt that the most glamorous and exciting of all historic racing events is the Grand Prix Historique de Monaco held every other year on the Grand Prix street circuit in the tiny principality on the Cote d’Azur. This year the event will be held May 20–21.
This year, 2006, marks the fifth running of the meeting that every serious historic racer would like to run in and every fan wants to see at least once. The many races for a wide range of single-seater and sports cars, both pre- and post-war, are fought out on the same track as the modern Grand Prix cars a week later. The atmosphere is stunning, with exhausts booming off the Monegasque architecture, with very tough racing on every inch of this unique and historic setting.
Monaco is unrivaled for fabulous spectating, whether you find yourself opposite the casino in Casino Square, having lunch at Rascasse while the cars whiz by, or sit in the harbor with luxury yachts bobbing about. The European and American entry is again promised to be outstanding for 2006.
Ticket information is available from the Automobile Club de Monaco, www.acm.mc.
