Sotheby’s has announced that it will hold an unprecedented auction of Ferrari cars and memorabilia in May 2005.
The sale, which will take place in Maranello at Ferrari’s Logistics building, next to the Fiorano track, will include historic and modern racecars, including the F2004 that was driven by World Champion Michael Schumacher to victory in the first five Grands Prix of the 2004 championship-winning season. This is the first time Ferrari will put a recent Formula One car up for auction.
Other cars set to be auctioned are the Maserati MC12 factory car, which won the 2004 FIA GT championship race at Oschersleben—the first victory for Maserati in 37 years. Another highlight among the items is the 1958 Ferrari 412 , #0744, which was driven by World Champion Phil Hill, Richie Ginther and John von Neumann.
As an added bonus, those attending the sale will have a rare opportunity to visit the Ferrari research and test center at Maranello—normally a restricted access area.
The auction will take place on May 23rd 2005, with viewing of the sale held the weekend of May 14–15, from 10:00 to 5:00 pm. Admission will be by catalog only.
