Amelia Island Concours de Sport 2011 – Class Winners and Photos
The Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance is well-known for its penchant for sports and racing cars. Led by founder Bill Warner, who raced “in the day” and vintage races today, the Amelia Concours goes out of its way to include a wide variety of sports and racing cars.
Further reinforcing the sports and racing partiality, Amelia was the first Concours to establish two Best in Show awards: Concours d’Elegance and Concours de Sport, which recognize the top traditional vehicle and top sports/racing vehicle, respectively.
The 2011 Amelia Island Concours “Best of Show” Concours d’Elegance was won by the 1933 Duesenberg SJN Arlington Torpedo Sedan of The Nethercutt Collection and Concours de Sport was won by the 1935 Duesenberg SJ Speedster Mormon Meteor of Harry Yeaggy. (See 2011 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance Best of Show Winners).
We have divided the classes into “Elegance” and “Sports & Racing” to better highlight the Best in Class winners. “Sports and Racing” class winners are listed below and “Elegance” winners are in a separate story. A Pininfarina-bodied Benz ?
Congratulations Mark and Newie on a great place for the sleek Sorrell-Manning Special. The car was a super interesting project for my shop from the hulk to the amazing vision that the owners had.
