Automobiles of London 2010 Auction Preview – RM Auctions
RM Auctions will hold its fourth annual Automobiles of London auction on October 27th, 2010 at Battersea Evolution in London.
RM Auctions’ London sale will feature over 100 cars, headlined by the “Most Famous Car in the World” 1964 Aston Martin DB5 of James Bond; the ex-Masten Gregory 1952 Jaguar C-Type; 2010 Pagani Zonda R; 1904 DeDion-Bouton Model ADL Rear-Entry Tonneau; 1961 Ferguson Climax P99 Four-Wheel-Drive F1 Racing Car; 1971 Lamborghini Miura SVJ; 1938 Talbot-Lago T23 Teardrop Coupe and 1931 Bentley 8-Litre Open Tourer.
RM is also presenting 23 examples from the Hooper Corporate Collection (Lots 110 – 132) as a featured segment of its Automobiles of London sale, many of which have been in the collection’s care since the 1980s. Highlights include: a gold-plated aluminium body 1920 Pierce-Arrow Model 48 2/3-Passenger Coupe; a 1935 Auburn 851 Supercharged Speedster; a 1964 Rolls-Royce Phantom V Seven-Passenger Limousine, formerly owned by New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller; a 1930 Rolls-Royce Phantom II featuring a unique one-off all-copper body by Brockman; and a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Coupe. The London sale features nine Ferraris, including a totally original, matching-numbers, factory-certified prototype 365 California Spyder.

In 2009, RM Auctions offered 84 cars for sale, with 69 finding new owners, reflecting an 82% sale rate. The total sales volume was £10,979,090 and the average price per car sold was £159,117. Top sale went to the 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR Roadster that sold for £616,000.
Presented by RM Auctions, the Automobiles of London event will be held October 27th, 2010 at Battersea Evolution, London, England. A full day preview will be held October 26th from 10.00am – 5.00pm GMT, followed by all the auction on October 27th from 4.00pm GMT. Admission to this event requires the purchase of an official auction catalog, available for £50. The catalog admits two and must be presented at the entrance to be granted entry.

Lot 202 - 1967 Toyota 2000GT Targa - Estimate £225,000-£275,000. Originally designed to allow Sean Connery easier access to improve filming of James Bond film 'You Only Live Twice', but was not created in time; design remained un-built until 1984, when an enthusiast decided to create a one-of-a-kind example of the car utilising the original Toyota sketch.

You have not mentioned one of the most important cars in the London sale – Lot 194 is the Lamborghini Islero GTS that Roger Moore drove in the last film he made before his run of seven James Bond films. RM Auctions even dedicated a press release to this one car, which has been restored to perfection and is extremely rare being one of only 100 of this model manufactured.
I wonder if the sale of the James Bond DB5 will bring the “other” real car out of the woodwork ????
Great question! I guess it will depend upon the price…ha.
I suspect that should be “other” real carS, with the emphasis on the plural! Has to be at least half a dozen or so running around with some claim to legitimacy, and many more with claim, but no legitimacy. Just like every Maserati 250-F was driven by Fangio at the Nurburgring!
I noticed the Talbot-Lago from John O’Quinn’s estate in the sale, do you know what has happened to the Fitch-Whitmore LeMans Special he had purchased at Bonhams 3-4 years ago? I’m talkin about the ” other ” car that was stolen from the aircraft hanger in Florida in the late 90s , this was the one that had all the gadgets in Goldfinger , the cars on offer was in the film as the ” stunt car ” and fitted with the gadgets AFTER the film , ie the car that Q is demonstrating to Bond in Goldfinger is NOT the car for sale in London
