Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2017 – Auction Report

Barrett-Jackson, WestWorld, Scottsdale, January 14-22, 2017

Any Barrett-Jackson auction is a spectacle, but none of them are as spectacular as WestWorld in January.

This is where it started over four decades ago and where the Barrett-Jackson ‘event’ format first took shape. The size, scope and diversity is breathtaking and no one who loves cars should let an opportunity to visit slip by. It runs for eight days and, honestly, it takes two of them just to walk through and take the measure of the auction cars, exhibitors, entertainment, vendors and the crowds, many of whom don’t have a clue what they’re looking at in the preview areas and lineup.

That sounds a little condescending, but drawn to Barrett-Jackson by the hype and the television, the ignorance of many of the day-trippers is one of Barrett-Jackson’s strengths: it draws new people into the stream of car collecting, imparts a sense of the hobby’s allure and builds anticipation for more involvement.

Attendance seemed to be off from last year, not helped by chilly, wet weather that may have kept on-site spectators back in the motel watching on television while gorging on Long Wong’s Wings instead of braving the elements for their entire time in Scottsdale.

Even in my 26th year at WestWorld I wasn’t immune and nearly came home with a telescoping flag pole (with solar powered light.) Consumption is the underlying concept; what’s a few hundred dollars at an event where millions are in play?

This year saw the largest consignment ever at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale. Although the average and median transactions were lower than the last few years the sale exceeded $100 million, at $101.5 million, 0.9% below last year.

As usual, some results were low, some were high and most were just right as even in the high pressure, TV cameras in bidders faces, environment of the Barrett-Jackson auction block bidders by and large made intelligent decisions about values.

Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale is an event not to be missed and its makeup and success is a strong indicator of the health and prospects of the collector car hobby. All indications from WestWorld 2017 are good with healthy but not exuberant prices and plenty of money being spread around.

1956 Morris Minor Traveler Station Wagon
Lot # 179 1956 Morris Minor Traveler Station Wagon; S/N FLJ4643224; Pistachio, Wood/Dark Green vinyl piped in Light Green; Older restoration, 2- condition; Hammered Sold at $14,500 plus commission of 10.00%; Final Price $15,950. No Reserve – Hub caps, banjo steering wheel, bucket seats. – From the Charlie Thomas collection. Very good older paint. Wood has a few cracks and there are panel fit issues. Wood finish is a little tired overall. Interior is excellent and like new. Sign on the dash that says ‘no brakes’, so we can assume a service is in order. Clean restored underneath. Restored a while ago. Not a show car, but gorgeous from a short distance and has even more charm/character in these bright colors. – Sold at Spring Auburn in 2014 for $22,550 and here two years ago in 2015 for $22,000, it fell under the radar today and represents a particularly good value for the new owner even with the needed work on the brakes (and no doubt other things.) A little attention will result in a nearly pristine and highly charismatic weekend driver.
1952 Willys Aero Ace 2-Dr. Sedan

No Reserve – Wheel covers, Firestone whitewalls, overdrive, hood ornament, amber driving lights, bench seat, column shift, pushbutton radio. Unrestored original showing 28,443 probably original miles. Serviced in 2015. Long time stored. Rub through above the left headlight. Very light pitting on the headlight bezels. The rest of the brightwork is a tad dull. Some very light oxidation underneath but nothing bad. Window gaskets are cracking. Remarkably good interior. This one has to be one of the best if not the best all original examples in the world and would be an ideal template for somebody restoring one. – There are myriad reasons for a car to sit for half a century but one of the less attractive ones probably applies in this case: no one cared. It is in any event a remarkable survivor, although probably not destined to end up on the lawn at Pebble Beach in the Preservation Class. It is what it is, and it brought a generous price for that.
1973 BMW 2002 2-Dr. Sedan
Lot # 340 1973 BMW 2002 2-Dr. Sedan; S/N 2589578; Fjord Blue/Black vinyl; Visually maintained, largely original, 3 condition; Hammered Sold at $15,500 plus commission of 10.00%; Final Price $17,050. No Reserve – Bridgestone tires, later Kenwood stereo. Bridgestone tires, later Kenwood stereo. – One repaint as well as new seats and steering wheel in 2013, but otherwise original. Bumpers are dull but presentable. Big chip in the right front fender. Lightly scratched up brightwork pretty much throughout. Surface rust underneath and on the rear brake drums. Doors stick out at the bottom. Numerous cracks in the dash and worn door panels, but very good replacement front seat upholstery and steering wheel. Nothing special but a solid driver. – This is really quite expensive for a driver quality single carb 2002, even with the desirable circular taillights.
1948 Studebaker Commander Land Cruiser 4-Dr. Sedan

Wheel covers, whitewalls, AM radio, cloth interior, wood dash, column-shift 4-speed. – Older repaint sill shows well and has no chips but could use polishing. Chrome and brightwork are very good. Interior is very good. Engine bay is well and correctly restored, as is the chassis that shows light road wear. An older restoration still showing quite well. – The postwar Studebaker market is an easy one to monitor, as prices have been steady for more than a decade. This was spot on the money for a well done older restoration. Buyer preference may be shifting to newer cars, but this one will likely gain more attention going down the road than a $15,000 ride from the 1990s.
1971 Fiat 850 Sport Coupe, Body by Bertone

No Reserve – Hub caps, all season tires, woodrim steering wheel. Hub caps, all season tires, woodrim steering wheel. – Recent service at Classic Showcase. Fiat badge is crooked. Decent repaint with masking issues around some of the trim pieces and cracking around the right rear marker lens. Newer seat upholstery but sound original interior, although the dash top is dry and lightly cracking. Undercoated chassis. Represented as largely original, but it’s gotten significant budget restoration work. Still an attractive and unusual little sports car. – Sold at Auburn Fall last September for $9,350 and has been freshened a little since then although not enough to make up for the near doubling of the price. This is a strong retail result for a Fiat with plentiful issues.
1976 Triumph TR6 Convertible

New chrome bumpers and what appears to be all new trim and stainless. Driver’s door has minor fit issues and does not close fully. Original seat upholstery and door panels. New carpet and top. Dash wood is overdone with a deep varnish. Engine bay is restored, very clean and well maintained. Heavily undercoated underbody metal, but well detailed differential, transmission and exhaust Never fully taken apart and restored, but it’s gotten everything it needed and was done to a reasonably high standard. – A strong but appropriate result for a safety bumper TR-6 in this condition, with an appropriate premium thrown in for the desirable factory hardtop.
1996 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra Convertible

Two big chips on the trunk lid and an inch long scratch on the left front fender but otherwise really good original paint. Very good original top. No rust underneath. Very good, lightly worn interior. Remarkably well kept and looks like a car with far fewer than the 52,403 miles it’s showing. – Sold at Fall Auburn in 2015 for $11,550. It’s only done 7 miles since then, according to the odometer. This result is more appropriate to the car’s solid condition and preservation and the seller made out well, although it seems he never got to enjoy the Triumph’s Rover V-8 power.

Restored in 2005 and fitted with an appropriate 4-barrel 289. Well applied paint still looks very good. Shiny chrome bumpers. Stainless is original with some scratching and some minor pitting and patina on some pieces. Fully restored, new seat upholstery and carpet. Light oil seepage. Aftermarket plug wires and chrome air cleaner and valve covers. Undercoating on fender wells. Undercoated, new steering and suspension pieces. An older restoration done to standards appropriate to the car’s value. Its biggest strength is the fantastic paint. – A sound price for a pretty driver, with an appropriate discount for the replacement engine and age of the restoration.

Showing 8,990 represented original miles. Well maintained original paint with only a few minor chips. Top is in good shape but could use a light cleaning. Original interior is well maintained with very light wear and some wear on the carpet. Clean, lightly run engine bay. Light road dirt but rust free underneath. Major service in 2015. – Part of the appeal of Fox-Body Mustangs is that they look so mundane but pack a 5.0 V-8 under the hood. With a V-6 and an auto, this car is just mundane inside and out, but that makes its barely used condition that much more special. This is strong money, almost all of it thanks to the low mileage and preservation.

Original factory paint with no damage or scratches. Interior still has factory plastic covering. Engine bay is original and unrestored, with all original factory markings. No wear to speak of and pretty much like it came off the showroom floor. – Quite frankly, this is crazy money and over five times what this car would have cost new. It’s more than a new Shelby GT350R. The numerous low-mileage Fox-Body cars did very well in Scottsdale this year, and this is one wasn’t even the most expensive.

Basically a new car. – There were some insane prices paid for Fox-Body Mustangs in Arizona this year, but this one takes the cake. This car was less than $15,000 when it was new 27 years ago and at Westworld it sold for about what would buy a brand new Z06 Corvette or make a healthy down payment on the new Ford GT.

This is as close to going back in time to buy a new one as you’re going to get, and while a turbo four seems like sacrilege for a Mustang, the SVO made just 5hp less than the V-8 GT that year. – Mothballed, like-new 20-30 year old performance cars have been coming to auction more often recently, and they often sell for somewhere around their original MSRP, making you wonder what the point of sitting on a fun car for so long without using it would be. In the case of this car, though, all that time sitting really paid off. When it was new, the SVO came in at around $15,000 and even pretty good examples don’t really sell for any more than that, making this an absolute grand slam for the seller and a likely record price for an SVO Mustang.

Restored recently and done to standards usually reserved for something more valuable. – The 1940 Oldsmobile was significant for the first year of GM’s Hydramatic automatic transmission. This impressively restored ’40 Olds commemorates that milestone and will make an impression at any pre-war car meet. Its price is much less than it would cost to restore it to this condition, although why anyone would restore it to this condition is a worthwhile question and it should be regarded as bought appropriately for its specification, body style and historical significance.

Lightly scratched front bumper. Some of the brightwork is lightly scratched up. Some deplating on the rear bumper. Sound original interior with good seats. Slightly tired but presentable wood and clean carpets. Original underneath but maintained and tidy. Rebuilt transmission. Not totally original, but has never gotten serious restoration work. An attractive car, but in no better than pretty driver condition. – Embarking on a restoration on this car would be a relatively straightforward process, but it wouldn’t be cheap, in part thanks to all that leather and wood trim. The new owner, who paid full retail here, will probably just enjoy it for the attractive driver that it is and enjoy a usable acquisition at a modest price.

Light wear to the seats and discoloration on the boot cover are the only things that take away from a beautiful show quality TC. – This is barely more than driver quality TC money but it bought a showable example, so it’s a great value to the new owner who has tons of money left over for maintenance and other costs. The car could have brought another $20,000 without being particularly expensive.

New chrome bumpers and new brightwork. Excellent panel fit. Fully restored interior that looks great other than minor cracks in the steering wheel. Fully restored engine bay with signs of use. Fully restored painted chassis showing some light wear. New exhaust. A solid but not extraordinary older restoration of an ordinary ’57 Bel Air. – An attractive car that is well equipped for weekend cruises with power steering, brakes and air conditioning, let down by the 2-barrel 283. Both buyer and seller should be satisfied with this result.

Light track scratches on the windows. Very good chrome and brightwork. Very good newer seats. The rest of the interior is original but very good other than lightly worn switchgear and seat belt buckles. Driver’s side door doesn’t fit flush. All in all, this is a very strong car. Not the world’s best, but you’d have to do some searching to find a much better one. – Not a steal, but a pretty good buy for a safety bumper TR6 in a desirable high-impact color. It could have brought another three or four grand without being expensive.

New bumpers. Good brightwork. Very good newer top. Original interior upholstery and door panels. New carpets. Engine compartment is well restored to factory condition, all correct including R59 Delco Battery. Chassis is restored to like new condition. Metal coatings are correct with light wear and have factory like appearance. Never fully taken apart and restored, but a maintained long-time California car with new engine and major attention when necessary. – Early Firebirds are surprisingly affordable, and it wouldn’t be too much of a chore to locate a similar model with a correct motor and a 4-speed for similar money. This is a generous amount, all things considered.
1995 Acura NSX Coupe
Lot # 745 1995 Acura NSX Coupe; S/N JH4NA1182ST000174; Red/Black leather; Unrestored original, 2 condition; Hammered Sold at $45,000 plus commission of 10.00%; Final Price $49,500. No Reserve – Modular wheels, Pirelli tires, power windows, air conditioning, cassette stereo. Modular wheels, Pirelli tires, power windows, air conditioning, cassette stereo. – Showing 36,391 miles. Big scratch on the left rear fender. Good original paint, but it hasn’t been pampered. The finish is slightly tired and there are detail swirls. Light wear to the seats corresponding with the mileage. Relatively low mileage, and VTEC Hondas will go forever and ever. Essentially a well kept used car. – The NSX is one of those cars that never really got cheap. They depreciated, but not to the same degree that some of their 90s Japanese contemporaries did, which means that most examples out there are still in really good shape. Even though it’s well kept, this car is about average condition-wise compared to other examples out there and wound up being a pretty good buy. It could have brought above 50 grand without being expensive.

Recently completed and there is nothing to knock on this Chevelle except that it claims only a matching-numbers transmission, but not the engine. – While this is Chevelle SS 396 has a wonderful restoration its driveline and equipment are fairly ordinary while the price it brought anticipates a more powerful L34 under the hood, and the original L34 at that. It looked good on the podium, though, and that was apparently enough from the WestWorld bidders.

Mostly very high quality and gorgeous, but missed on a few details. – Sold at Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas from the collection of Tammy Allen last year for $48,400, a spot-on result. Allen bought it at B-J Las Vegas in 2010 for $66,000, which was overpaying, so the result here was definitely high. A great return on a short-term ownership for the seller. Austin-Healey fascination has moved away from the later 3000s and BJ8s to the earlier roadster bodied cars with this BN4 combining some of the features of both and it obviously had great appeal here today.

Body-off restored to high standards, but there are a few flaws that keep it from being a great car and instead is just a very good one. – After a notable surge, Bugeye prices have softened slightly, but it’s always going to be a car that offers more character per dollar than performance. At least two people really, really wanted this car and bid it to a price that would normally buy one of the best over-restored Bugeyes in the world, which this car just isn’t. Great day for the seller.

Not a show car, but still very pretty. – Sold here two years ago for $66,000, which was still a somewhat modest result. It’s in essentially the same condition today, so the price here is a downright bargain for such a satisfying car. It deserves a lot more, but this can sometimes happen with a no reserve auction, even one as jam-packed as Barrett-Jackson. The Alfa buyers must have been elsewhere when it crossed the block fairly early on Friday and missed a very good value opportunity.

Very well detailed assembly with all correct gaskets. Appears to be all original upholstery. Well detailed dash with fresh chrome trim restoration. Well detailed restored engine bay with correct GM parts and high quality reproduction parts. Clean well restored, painted frame and correct coatings on suspension. Painted underbody, no rust proofing. A high quality body-off restoration in its original colors. – Sold at Barrett-Jackson in 2013 for $68,200, which was a modest but reasonable result at the time. This time around, Oldsmobile buyers must have had their eyes on other 4-4-2s at Westworld or elsewhere in Scottsdale, because this car just didn’t get very much attention. The buyer paid worn-out driver money for a relatively recent body-off restored car that has been carefully preserved in a major collection. It is an astute purchase.

The brightwork is in good condition and has a few minor scuffs on the front bumper. The engine appears to have been recently painted and the engine compartment detailed, the underbody indicates minor use since restoration as there is a little grime. The redone interior presents well and there is little to pick on. A good older restoration that you wouldn’t be afraid to drive. – Documented only with its original fender tag and an inspection report from Galen Govier, showing age and a little use as well as some recent detailing, it sold here in 2005 for $108,000 freshly restored and this result reflects the dozen years’ age as well as the current Hemi market. The odometer has added just 76 miles even though the car looks like it’s gone farther.

Both are perfectly appropriate for a well maintained but unremarkable 356 coupe.

The price paid here was more in line with a similarly equipped Chevelle, although this Nova SS is more rare and lighter to get even more performance out of the L78 under the hood. A passion purchase indeed.

There is nothing to fault on this Eliminator. – The car is freshly restored to very high standards, but even so this price is massive for a 302 Eliminator, a car that very rarely cracks six figures. For reference, this is about what the equivalent Boss 302 Mustang would ordinarily expect to bring. An informed buyer in 1970 would have taken note that the G-Code Boss 302 engine in the Cougar was rated 300hp, 10hp more than the Mustang, probably just marketing fluff to justify the higher price of the Mercury, but it does confer some bragging rights.

Not perfect, but it’s been given a ton of high quality attention and could definitely be shown casually. And with more than twice the power it came with from the factory, it will even be able to get out of its own way. – While $143,000 is a huge price, 21-window Sambas routinely ring the bell at Barrett-Jackson for some reason. This was a superb example, presented with all the kit that gets bidders excited. Very few unmodified Sambas have sold for more, but even still this amount isn’t surprising. Whether or not it is worth this figure is another question.

A gorgeous car, accurately valued, and fairly bought for both parties.

Very good mostly original interior. Since it’s not all original and not all that rare or special, there’s no real point in trying to keep wear and patina. It would make a good candidate for a pretty easy restoration. – This honest but used old cosmetically re-done XK 150 can be driven as it is, which is good because the price it brought is too much to give it a restoration of any significance without going deeply underwater.

The engine compartment is aged and has some patina as does the underbody, although the exhaust has been replaced. The interior is the best part and appears unused. An honest, original car that is appropriately conditioned for its age (but not its low mileage) – Sold by B-J at Palm Beach in 2014 for $99,000 and preserved since in its aged and weathered condition, the result here doesn’t show much movement by the Corvette Survivor market in three years.

One of 16 Mercer Series 6s known of 153 believed built, ex-Harrah Collection and Joe Loecy. Documented with its Harrah’s Collection restoration file. – Sold for $82,500 at RM’s Hershey auction in 2015 where it showed the same 135 miles on the odometer as it did today. Something of a shadow of what Mercer had been, its bought-in Rochester six-cylinder engine and Brown & Lipe transmission belied the quality and performance that had made Mercer’s reputation. All that aside, it is an exceptionally sporting (which, after all, is the name Mercer gave its coachwork) and good performing automobile, even in this aged restoration’s condition. This is an inexpensive entry into ownership of one of America’s fabled marques. It is usable as it is, and probably too good to bother wasting money on making it more pretty. Just drive it.

The result here however shows that with careful attention to presentation and function by Classic Showcase a superior result can be eked out even at a venue not usually seen as the place to bring early 911s. The final result of $155,000 hammer, less the seller’s commission, on the other hand is not much more than was paid a year ago; the year’s work is free even though the buyer paid $30,800 for it.

Some day the realization will come to Ford GT owners that almost none of them have more than delivery miles, the market is saturated – especially since a new Ford GT is in the pipeline – and it’s time to take them out to be enjoyed on the road. It will be like the 17-year cicada cycle: suddenly the roads will be full of Ford GTs.

Freshly restored to better than new condition it has a monstrous lump of 1968 L-88 spec Chevy V-8 under its foreshortened hood, a 427 big block that made all the well-known issues of driving a Cheetah – immense power and torque and a short 90 inch wheelbase, not to mention a cockpit heated to extreme temperatures by the front mid-mounted engine – even more intense. So what, who cares? It is a visceral, thumping, remarkably beautiful footnote on American road racing history in the 1960’s and this is purportedly the only one built by Thomas with the 427, for Hollywood Cadillac dealer Jack Goodman. – The price doesn’t bear any argument if only because it is the only one there is and there is nothing comparable. The seller now has the difficult task of finding a different avenue to convert it to cash, or the frankly appealing prospect of enjoying it for a few years on the show and historic racing circuit. Just put a driver with really quick hands in it if it goes on track.

In essentially the same condition as its counterpart, meaning it’s gotten the treatment it deserves without succumbing to over-restoration. – Sold as a pair with #1377.1 for $517,000 all in. These two were offered at Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas last year but not sold at high bids of $300,000 each. It’s a choice pair, but significant only to a diehard Firebird or first-of-its-kind collector. Vegas now looks like a missed opportunity.

A made up car, but a very attractive one. – Mix and Match Duesenbergs were commonplace fifty years ago but have become more rare in recent years as collectors and restorers have recovered frames, engines, transmissions, firewalls and bodies and reunited them in increasingly consistent presentations of their original appearance. This Model J remains as one of the mix and matches and it brought a price that is better suited to a consistent frame and driveline with reproduction coachwork, not this completely made-up car which sold for $363,000 at RM’s Amelia Island auction in 2011.

Few will criticize it for its age or its dated colors, nor should it be subjected to anything more stringent than a mechanical servicing before being driven and enjoyed. It is an unusual value at this price.

Built only as a nonfunctional styling model, it was reported sold at the Hershey Auction in 2001 from the Blackhawk Museum, The present owner, restorer and Pebble Beach judge Scott Grundfor, proceeded to do what Ghia hadn’t in 1955, make it run and drive. Previous owners establish its exceptional provenance and significance: the Henry Ford and Harrah’s in addition to Blackhawk. Mostly original with a little flaky chrome on the rear valence. Very good paint and interior. – This is one of the most significant styling exercises of the period, akin to Harley Earl’s Y-Job, and the fact that it now whispers across the auction block is an even more significant endorsement of the validity of the concept and execution. In today’s Gilda function has caught up with design with great adherence to originality, it just took fifty years for technology to catch up with Ghia’s concept and make it go. What’s it worth? Apparently more to the consignor than this bid and taking it home to be enjoyed is not an unpleasant prospect. It is a beautiful thing.

It is a quality DB5 and this is a realistic price for it.

Its restoration is, except for some age-related issues, above reproach and the Reggie Jackson provenance helps, too. It could have brought quite a bit more than this without being expensive and is a lot of value at this price.

A few touched up scratches and cracks on the nose. Sizable blisters on and around the side strakes. Small blisters on passenger door. Fairly worn seats, otherwise excellent interior. Discoloration on the exhaust tips. You’d have to really like the show to pay much of a premium for this, but even without the screen time it’s a commendably preserved flying mirror Testarossa with 16,169 miles on the odometer. – After a few years in vogue Testarossas have settled down to generous but not outrageous prices for their style and performance. This result reflects little if any premium for its use by Crocket and Tubbs and is a sound value for the money. There were prior attempts to sell it for three or four times this much which are now irrelevant.

The result here is not an accurate representation of this car’s worth but rather an exceptional value in the aftermath of the frenzy during Saturday Prime Time. It could have brought much closer to its 2012 price and not been unreasonable. This is, simply, a great value for someone who stayed late.

It’s a piece of hot rodding and custom car history with its build documented on ‘American Hot Rod’ and universally recognized. It might look better with a radiator shell different from the downsized Model A shape (a track car nose, maybe), but this is how it is known and it would be close to sacreligious to change it.

Well restored and looks right, but not the real deal. – Nothing about the presentation of this car documents it as a COPO car from new, just that it has a correct COPO engine block. The bidders noticed the discrepancy but chose to overlook it for the most part and paid close to COPO money.

The equipment is marvelous, the color is eyeball-searing, the low miles and matching numbers are rare and the restoration is spectacular but this is by any standard ‘all the money’ for it.

The engine compartment shows minimal aging as does the underbody. The interior has been well kept since the restoration. An old restoration that has been exceptionally well kept. – Sold by Mecum at Kissimmee in 2015 for $145,800, then by B-J at Palm Beach three months later for $165,000, this Charger 500 has settled back to earth now and represents a lot of value for the money, especially with its unusually lavish equipment list.

Doors don’t fit flush. Spotless underneath. Very lightly worn seats. Fully restored interior, including gauges. Very slight waviness to the dash top. Very good paint and chrome. Eye-catching, great car let down by a handful of forgivable flaws. – The 300C is arguably the best looking of all Chrysler’s letter cars with a gaping eggcrate grille that looks ready to devour lesser cars, and in 1957 ‘lesser cars’ included just about anything else on the road. It could have brought at least a third more than this without being expensive and as such is a very good buy at this price.

Tank sticker documented. – Represented to be matching-numbers engine, transmission and rear end. Excellent paint and panel finish. The brightwork all shines like new. The engine compartment has been fully restored and much effort has been made to simulate correct overspray and factory assembly quality. The interior is like new and has no wear. A high quality restoration with high attention to detail and accuracy. Restoration finished in 2005 and in a museum from 2006-16. No word about NCRS or Bloomington Gold. – Sold at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale in 2006, fresh from restoration, for $210,600. Values for big-block mid-year Vettes are finally back up to their pre-Recession levels, so that 2006 result would be as appropriate today as it was then. After 10 years of static display, the car is basically in the same condition and could reasonably expect to bring the same kind of price. That’s not what happened, however, and the buyer got away with a pretty good bargain.

Chassis and underbody were done like new but sat for a while and are a little aged and dusty. Engine compartment is thoroughly and sympathetically done in factory finishes and configuration. – It is routinely dusty in shops where restorations are done and sitting around for three years dust is bound to accumulate on the first-done assemblies. That is only a small knock on this exceptionally well done Fuelie’s restoration, however. The more significant issue is that nowhere does the seller represent the drivetrain as original although the chassis number is late enough for the 4-speed to be available. The bidders were justifiably skeptical, but even skepticism is insufficient to make this Corvette anything less than a great value at this price.

Dull and light pitting on original dash. Interior is otherwise very good. Good repaint. Chrome is good. Original but well kept underneath. Gaskets on the front bumperettes are dry and cracking. Maintained thoroughly and with major attention, but never restored. – Priced appropriately for its equipment, preservation and condition, this is one heck of a big, luxurious, showboat of an automobile in pleasing Sixties colors and materials.
