Chris Bender scored back-to-back Historic Grand Prix victories with his March 821-Cosworth on consecutive July weekends, winning the feature races at both the Legends of Motorsports Bobby Rahal Signature Event at Quebec’s Le Circuit Mont Tremblant and the Kohler International Challenge with Brian Redman at Road America in Wisconsin.
After enjoying a relatively easy win in Quebec, where he led Bud Moeller (Ferrari 312T5) across the line by more than 10 seconds, Bender had to fight hard for it at Elkhart Lake, chased hard all the way by Mike Fitzgerald (Williams FW08C-Cosworth) so that his margin of victory at the checker was a mere 0.826 seconds. James King (March 761-Cosworth) took 3rd in Quebec, hot on Moeller’s tail, while Dan Marvin (Brabham BT44-Coworth) claimed the third step on the podium at Road America.
