The 15th Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance selected Best of Show winners in its two primary categories of Elegance and Sport on March 12–14, with the former award taken by Sam and Emily Mann’s 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster, and the latter going to Jonathan Feiber’s 1960 Maserati Tipo 61.
The Mann Mercedes, resplendent in classic silver paint with blue leather interior, is thought to have once been consigned to Adolph Eichmann, and brought along a string of similar Best in Show honors at previous events around the country. Feiber’s Birdcage Maserati was driven to victory in the 1960 Cuban Grand Prix in Havana by Stirling Moss, for entrant Lucky Casner and his Camoradi team.
In addition to honoring Mercedes-Benz as its featured marque, and highlighting “Cars of the Cuban Grand Prix,” Amelia 2010 also paid tribute to Richard Petty as its Featured Guest, with a number of cars from “The King’s” career on display. The 40th Anniversary of Porsche’s first victory at Le Mans was also celebrated with a collection of the marque’s iconic 917 model.
