Northern California’s Classic Sports Racing Group was founded by the late David Love as a way to express his love for the exotic performance cars, and each year since his passing the CSRG has honored him with a spring race meeting at Sonoma Raceway. That race meeting now also enjoys a working relationship with the Danville Concours, which raises money to fight Parkinson’s Disease, a malady that Love himself had to deal with for many years.
This year’s Second Annual Love Memorial featured a broad array of cars with a multitude of chassis types. In Formula Atlantic alone, seven different marques were represented, while Formula B featured five different carmakers. Familiar marques such as Porsche, Alfa Romeo and MG were well represented, as were unusual sports cars like Turner, Marcos, TVR and more. The races in nine Race Groups produced the following winners:
Group 1: Diane Cox, MGA
Group 2: Kevin Shirley, Turner Mark II
Group 3: Fred Della Noce, Ginetta
Group 4: Michael Malone, Elva Mk8
Group 5: Chris Locke, Lotus 27
Group 6: Steve Torp, Brabham BT18
Group 7: Danny Baker, Ralt RT1
Group 8: John Goodman, Pontiac Fiero GTU
Group 9: Greg Meyer, Dailu Mk 2 Roadster
