This large painting study was inspired by my first visit to Lime Rock Park 17 years ago. I couldn’t believe the amount of vintage racecars all in one place. As I walked around the race pits, the smell of gas and oil was overwhelming in a good way. When I saw the sexy curves of the ’50s Jaguar D-type, I was hooked. I watched the drivers get prepared but because of all the exhaust fumes, I couldn’t get much closer.
The D-Type in this painting is in Ecurie Ecosse team livery. I added the Lister Jaguar in Cunningham team colors for effect. The way these cars from the ’50s and ’60s handled the curves with no wings for added downforce was incredible.
