Danville Concours d’Elegance 2012 – Report and Photos

The Danville Concours d’Elegance 2012 was held September 15-16 on the streets of historic downtown Danville, California. The 8th annual event included a traditional Concours, plus a Tour d’Elegance rally and Dinner d’Elegance celebration at the Blackhawk Museum.

Best of Show at the 2012 Danville Concours d’Elegance was awarded to the 1939 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Superleggera Berlinetta Sport Coupe.Bodied by Touring, the 6C (chassis 915030) is one of thirteen. It sports a twin overhead camshaft, 4-speed transmission, independent suspension, an aluminum body and plexiglass windows. The lines are simple and captivating. The 6C 2500 replaced the 6C 2300 with increased horsepower and better gearing for a higher top speed.

Additional award winners included Best in Class German presented to the 1964 Porsche 356 1600C of Ted French, Best in Class British was awarded to the 1964 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk III owned by Colin Holland and the 1957 Thunderbird of Alan Biagi won Best in Class American.

In addition to the award winners, other notable entries at the 2012 Danville Concours included the 1956 Alfa Romeo Giulietti Sprint Veloce; Speed Nymph 909 Streamliner; 1951 Allard K2; 1969 Lola T163 Can-Am; 1954 Bentley R-Type Continental; 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster; 1935 Packard Model 1201 Convertible Coupe; 1951 Aston Martin DB2; 1963 Iso Grifo A3/L; among others.

The Danville d’Elegance Foundation is dedicated to supporting organizations in their pursuit of a cure for Parkinson’s disease, while raising funds to benefit the advancement of both Parkinson’s research and patient care. Currently ranked as the third largest national supporter of the Michael J. Fox Foundation “Team Fox” efforts, the Foundation and its quest to support Parkinson’s Research and Patient Care is on a roll. Since 2004, the Foundation and its staff of more than 200 volunteers has raised more than $1.3 million to benefit the debilitating disease.

“Thanks to the ongoing efforts of our volunteers, we’ve become ‘the little Concours that could,” said Jim Edlund, Co-Founder of the Danville d’Elegance. “We now have a full weekend of events, and of equal importance, corporate sponsors that view our program as a worthwhile cause and credible outlet for their contributions. The support of our sponsors, as well as our local community, is enriching our program and ability to annually keep surpassing our financial goals.”
