Denver Cornett, an icon of American MG racing passed away last year. And many of those who were privileged to know this MG racer and enthusiast will honor him at Mid-Ohio this October at VSCDA’s vintage race weekend on October 12–14, where MG will be the featured marque.
Denver Cornett began racing his MG TC in the inaugural race at Watkins Glen in 1948, and then raced it for a number of years at many early street races before “retiring it”—but not parting with it. His MG enthusiasm was rekindled in 1994, when he returned to Watkins Glen to watch the vintage races. Subsequently, he joined the MG Vintage Racers group, and brought his MG out of retirement, and began racing it at vintage events, where he befriended many of his fellow MG racers. Now they will honor him at Mid-Ohio, where the all-MG race will be named the “Denver Cornett Memorial Race.”
Denver’s son Denny Cornett will be there to share some of his memories of his dad. This event has been designated by the MG Vintage Racers as their “Focus Event” for 2007.
