Elva cars (Elva being derived from the French elle va or “she goes”) was the brainchild of Frank Nichols. Nichols built his first car in 1954 and soon was making overhead valve conversion kits for the Ford 105E motor as well as a series of MkI sports racers. In the hands of drivers like Archie Scott-Brown and Dennis Taylor, Elvas racked up numerous wins on the circuits of Britain and the United States and established a solid name for the small manufacturer. As the years went on, Elva produced a variety of sports racers, Formula Juniors and even a road car known as the Elva Courier. However, despite their on-track success, Elva ran into f inancial trouble and eventually ceased all production by 1967.
This month’s Web site is the official site for Elva and the Elva Owners Club and is a fitting tribute to Frank Nichols’ legacy. Some of the features of this site include recent Elva news, cars for sale, Elva related books and models for sale as well as extensive history of Elva the company, Elva the cars, and the man who made it all possible – Frank Nichols.
