Equipe Classic Racing, organizers of the Equipe GTS and Equipe Pre ’63 FIA Production Sports Car series, is introducing a new and exciting grid for the 2020 racing season.
With the promise of close racing and a friendly paddock atmosphere, ‘Equipe 50s’ has been created for fans and racers of Production Sports Cars and Sports Racing Cars from the 1950s. This evocative and exciting era in motor sport will be recreated with grids of Production Sports cars under 3.6-liters and Sports Racers under 2-liters.
Having earned a strong reputation among competitors and spectators as the organizer of the premium clubman series in the UK, Equipe Classic Racing promises high standards of car preparation and driving standards, plus close racing and an intriguing variety of racing machinery in the new Equipe 50s series.
John Pearson, Equipe Classic Racing Partne said: “Equipe 50s is a natural and complementary extension to our existing grids. We think there are many owners and drivers of 1950s cars out there looking for competitive racing in closely-matched classes, and by bringing the ethos of Equipe to the grid we can promise an emphasis on driving standards and high levels of car preparation and presentation.”
The 1950s was an exciting era for iconic racing cars. Grids were varied, with production cars from Jaguar XKs, MGAs, T-Types and Lotus Elites competing with small volume sports racers from Lotus, Cooper, Lola and Elva. Equipe 50s will reimagine this period with Sports Racing classes divided into pre- and post -1956 to account for performance and braking differentials, and unique classes for engine size. All cars will run on Dunlop Historic tires and to FiA appendix K specification with FiA papers welcome but not mandatory.
Equipe 50s cars will also be eligible for the increasingly popular Equipe three-Hour Relay at Donington Park plus a trip to Belgium for the spectacular Equipe Summer Classic race at the historic Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
In summary, John Pearson says: “By carefully selecting eligible cars, Equipe has delivered close and exciting racing over the years. Having consulted with drivers and racing communities we feel we can transfer these elements to Equipe 50s. Combined with our friendly and sociable atmosphere and our focus on the spirit of racing, we’re really looking forward to bringing Equipe 50s to life.”
