One of the last surviving men who helped forge the so-called Golden Age of motor racing has passed away. 1950s Ferrari works driver Dorino Serafini died in a Bologna, Italy, hospital on July 5th at the age of 90. After a successful career on motorcycles, Serafini switched to cars and drove for the likes of OSCA, Cisitalia and Maserati before being invited to join Ferrari as a works driver.
Serafini’s finest hour at the wheel of a Ferrari was in the 1950 Mille Miglia, in which he hounded the race leaders mercilessly in his works 195S open barchetta. Serafini finished just seven minutes behind the surprise winner Marzotto in a Ferrari 195S coupè.
