A four-race 2016 calendar has been announced by Formula 5000 Drivers Association President Seb Coppola. Also revealed was a 2018 return to the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca as a featured race group. The F5000 races were among the most popular at last year’s Rolex event, with more than 40 cars from all over the world taking part, and this obviously influenced the return.
The 2016 schedule, however, begins at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on June 15-19 where F5000 will again be part of SVRA’s Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational. The following month, Round 2 will take place on the weekend of July 14-17 at Elkhart Lake’s Road America in Wisconsin, as part of the Weather Tech International Challenge with Brian Redman presented by Hawk. The season will conclude with a pair of September races, the first SVRA’s U.S. Vintage Grand Prix at Watkins Glen on the weekend of September 8-11, and the finale at California’s Sonoma Raceway as part of CSRG’s annual Charity Challenge weekend. This latter event, however, has yet to be confirmed. For complete information please visit www.F5000Registry.com
