Gooding and Company will feature a trio of Italian automobiles at their 2012 Scottsdale auction, scheduled for January 20-21 in Scottsdale, Arizona. The headline offerings include a 1956 Ferrari 500 Testa Rossa Scaglietti Spider, 1971 Lamborghini Miura P400 SV by Bertone and 1971 Maserati Ghibli 4.9 SS Spider by Ghia.
“These days, extraordinary cars that are rare and have great provenance are of paramount importance to collectors,” says David Gooding, president and founder of Gooding & Company.“Whether it is the ultimate Maserati or Lamborghini road car or an early version of one of Ferrari’s most important racing models, the common thread connecting the Ferrari 500 Testa Rossa, Lamborghini Miura P400 SV and Maserati Ghibli Spider is that they are the best examples of quality, significance and performance for which each marque has become renowned.”
1956 Ferrari 500 Testa Rossa (Chassis no. 0650MDTR) – Preceding the 250 Testa Rossa, the 500 was the first Ferrari to use the Testa Rossa namesake. The 1956 Ferrari 500 Testa Rossa pictured above is one of just 17 examples produced and one of the most extensively campaigned four-cylinder cars to race in the United States. American motorsport legends John von Neumann, Bruce Kessler and Pete Lovely all raced this 1956 Ferrari 500 Testa Rossa in its early years at Pomona, Lime Rock, Riverside, Paramount, Palm Springs and Laguna Seca. An original and honest race car, this Ferrari is an excellent candidate for enthusiasts wishing to participate in the best vintage rallies and racing events. The car’s auction estimate is $2.1 – $2.6 million.
Other notable consignments for the 2012 Gooding and Company Scottsdale auction include a 1930 Duesenberg Model J Disappearing Top Convertible Coupe (estimate $1.6 – $2.2 million), the New York Auto Show 1969 Iso Grifo 7 Litre by Bertone (estimate $350,000 – $550,000) and a 1965 Ferrari 500 Superfast ($950,000 – $1.25 million).
Gooding & Company will be conducting its annual Scottsdale Auctions on January 20 and 21, 2012 at the Scottsdale Fashion Square at 68th Street and East Camelback Road. Guests may preview the cars on Thursday and Friday, January 19-20, from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Saturday, January 21 from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. An auction catalogue for $80 admits two to the viewing and auction. Does the V12 Testa Rossa really deserve the $12 million premium OR are the 4-cylinder variants that underpriced? Should be interesting to see how these converge (or not) over time.
I have a related theory about Ghiblis, but care to keep it to myself so as to not open up the market. 😉
What is your Ghibli theory? I own a 4.9 SS Coupe- AM115 49 2370.
In short, don’t sell…especially that model.
I own a Ghibli SS spider conversion transformed in italy directly out of the factory with original spares from the factory based on one of the very latest coupé produced. The client wanted a new spider and that’s what the factory proposed him as they stopped producing the spider before the coupé. Can someone help me to estimate the value of that car today ? (the car need a mecanical restoration as it didn’t moove since summer 94′ but stayed in a heathen place and the engine in out ). The car is complete and in good condition. no rust !!! Leather inside almost perfect …)
